Getting a Firearm Permit after a Felony Conviction

My boyfriend was convicted of a Federal offense (Felony - Intent to deliver) in 1988, was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison, served 4 years of supervise release. Is it possible for him to obtain a license to purchase a shotgun for hunting purposes? Also, what about restoring his right to vote?

His eligibility for restoration of rights, and the procedure he would follow, depends upon the state in which he resides.

There is no expungement available for a federal crime - the only way to get it set aside is through a Presidential pardon (which, for most people, is not a realistic possibility).
