Default Moving Abroad
Hello

I have US credit card debt, i will be moving abroad to Canada, if i am unable to pay this amount and discontinue payment, what can they do? Will they garnish my wages in canada? would bankruptcy be a better route to go?

I have student loan debt which i plan on paying but with all the currency costs i dont think i can pay both.

Please advise

thank you

You didn't furnish the name of your state.

Some credit card issuers (ie banks) do pursue payment in Canada & others do not. However; even if they don't, in some states the SOL is tolled while you are gone out of the country. If you return to the US, they may again resume collection of the debt.

Regarding bankruptcy - since we don't know your complete financial situation (amt. of debt, income/assets, etc.), you will need to discuss that possibility with a bk attorney. (Student loan debt will not be discharged in bk.)
