Default Cheque Fraud and now Banks are Bullying me

    Help needed,

My bank account has been frozen. I lent my friend my account for her to lodge a cheque as her account was in debit, and gave her my pass card. Within the period of a week she had lodged cheques worth 4500euro (written from her own account where she had no money) and withdrew them without any of them being cleared by the bank (Allied Irish Bank, Ireland). The cheques have now bounced and my account is 4500 in debit. The guards are investigating the matter. The bank wants me to change my debit account into a loan straight away and start paying it back. The banks have made many mistakes (such as acceptinng cheques dated either 2003 or postdated for a month later and also they never contacted me over the 7 days that it was all happening) and are not giving me the required information I need. I am a student and i do not have sufficient funds to pay it back. As my account was frozen I was under the impression that money would not be lodged into my account and so my granyt cheques bounced off the account instead of going in. This was fine as i need that money to live and expected the cheques to be posted to me. However since this the bank has lifted the frozen status, taken both my student grants and frozen the account again. To me this, along with the way they are speaking and dealing with me, is bullying and intimidation. Can anyone advise or help me

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    Sabrina

    Default Borrowed Bank Card

I don't know the laws in Ireland, and I'm not sure that I completely understand what happened. In the U.S., if somebody makes charges with a borrowed bank card, the person who lent the card is typically responsible for all charges even if the borrower exceeds the scope of the permission. The account holder would have to try to collect the money from the person who borrowed the card.

Thanks for that input. Thats what the bank are saying but unfortunately, even though the person in question is being investigated by the guards for fraud, her situation as a single mother living on benefits means that she will probably get away with only paying off a small sum every month (€5.00) and if she stops paying then it is i who must follow her on it. All this points to the fact that she may get away with it and im left paying the bill.

Regarding the banks, i just want them to claim some responsibility and maybe cancell the debit on the cheques that are dated wrong (one is postdated for a month later and another is dated 2003)

Again Mr. Knowitall, thanks for your input

    Sabrina
