Question Credit Card Theft
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: IL

i have a couple questions about what could potentially happen. my roommate and i were living together for a good amount of time. during that time there were months where i had permission to use his card to pay our bills. basically i used it with him in the same room for a couple months. i always gave him cash for my share of it.. this was back from feb to middle of april. i got notified that there were payments sent back to me from those months.. its july.. i was also informed by a friend he called the companies and told them i used it without permission and i heard he filed a police report against me for theft. the total that was used on his card was about 3000$. ive begun to pay some of the bills back since they were returned. now my question is if he really did report me and filed a police report against me what could happen? can i go to jail? can they just arrest me off the street? im extremely nervous about all this. i have no proof that i gave him cash for everything i used it for.

Default Re: Credit Card Theft
If you are charged with a crime, you can expect to be prosecuted. If an arrest warrant is issued and the first place the police find you and associate you with the warrant is "on the street", then you can be arrested "off the street".

You either used the card, with permission, to pay bills or you did not. You should have some ability to demonstrate (a) that these were legitimate joint bills and (b) you had cash (from somewhere) at that time in amounts consistent to pay him his share. But if he was in the room, why wasn't he the one using his credit card to pay his bills?
