Wage Garnishment

My question involves judgment recovery in the State of: Georgia

I had credit cards when I lived in IL from 1999-2001 timeframe, eventually lost my job in 01. Was unable to pay on the Credit Cards I owed and couldn't find a job so I moved to GA to work for the family business. Since that time frame the cards/debt has been charged off and sent to various collection agencies who have bought and sold my debt for the last 6 years.

I went to court 06/08 for a bill of 6K principle + 7.5K interest. I didn't have a lawyer because I couldn't afford one, nor was the Plaintiff's lawyer there....just me and the judge. I explained the case and circumstances, she ruled in favor of them. Never heard a word from anyone since that time, until yesterday.

Received in the mail a copy of Wage Garnishment. I don't understand the form as everything is blank? It also states on the first page the following, "Personally appeared "Lawyer name", who on oaths says that he is the Agent-Attorney At Law for Plaintiff.....how can this be true when he wasn't in court?

I guess I have so many questions, don't know where to turn or start. I have seen several people ask about the SOL in GA, does that apply to me since my original contract with the Credit Card company was in IL and then moved to GA?

Is there anyway of preventing the Wage garnishment?

Perhaps the lawyer was present in court to seek the garnishment.

The statute of limitations that applies, post-judgment, is the statute of limitations for judgments.
