Finding Information on a Vehicle Title

this has to do with the state of michigan
can a private investigator find out everything that was done to a vehicle title?meaning signatures that was used for transfering a vehicle & dates?
even if the title was from a different state but,someone put it in there name illegally after someones death.meaning nothing probated and death certificate wasnt issued yet.the one title on this vehicle is showing a michigan title which was done after the owner's death.
i have a attorney and he has hired a pi on this case and wanted to know what all the pi can find out.just dont want this to be a waste of time and money.

I would think that an attorney could do more than a PI. (PI's may correct me.)

An attorney could file a suit against the person who has the car or even perhaps the car itself. He could then have a subpeona issued to the DMV for copies of the records. Heck, a FOIA request might even work. I would try that first.

The DMV in whatever state has a website. See if it says they are subject to FOIA requests or you need a subpeona.

Ask your private investigator what records he expects to be able to obtain, and what the fee will be.

If your lawyer has filed a lawsuit, why not simply subpoena all available records from the involved states' DMV's? You would have to check with the DMV's to see if they archive signed documents, either on paper or electronically, and for how long.
