My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia
We are currently renting a condo managed by a property management company. Landlord is currently selling the unit and has been showing the place for the past 3 months. Our current lease ends on the 24th of this month.
Due to the showing, we have been highly inconvenienced. Realtors walking in and out constantly (some without permissions), also being asked to vacate our own place so they could talk in private, showings that interrupt our weekends, etc.
Landlord has called us about 2 weeks ago to let us know that we are welcome to stay at the apartment after our lease ends till he sells the apartment which we will be given 30 day notice to leave. But we have decided after a few run-ins with impolite realtors that this arrangement is not going to work for us since I am currently pregnant and due in a month so not knowing when we will be asked to leave and realtors walking in and out constantly has been driving us insane.
I called our property manager just now and he pointed out to me that we have to give 30 day notice. Is there a way to get out of this 30 day notice? I didn't realize this till I read the lease. We have got ourselves another apartment which we will move to next week (before our current lease ends). Having to pay for an extra month at the current place which has been a great imposition and burden for us will be hard financially and a big waste of money especially with a baby on the way.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.
