Roommate Will Not Return Security Deposit

My question involves a security deposit in the State of: New York.

My room mate gave me a 3 day notice to move out. I gave him a $300 dollar security deposit. I am entitled to the return of this security deposit. I did not sign a lease. He told me that it would take him a week to pay me the deposit. A couple days later he told me that it would take him 2 more weeks after I leave. He is not responding to my calls or text messages.
