Default Earning Reduction and Independent Contractor Work

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California

Hello, I have a question about reporting earnings and how it may effect your claim amount for the week.

I was planning to start earning a few dollars here and there with some online writing jobs. I know that I have to report all of my earnings (and I will), but I was wondering how it works.

I did some research (but only found answers for other states) and found that some people say their check for that week is only reduced if they make over a certain amount, and others say their check is reduced exactly the amount they made regardless of how much that is. How does California handle this? By the way, I'd be lucky to make $40 week from these jobs.

And I'm not sure if this effects how they handle this situation or not, but the companies that pay for the writing consider you an IC, not an employee.

    Thanks.

California reduces by the amount you earned.

This makes no difference. It's still earned income, regardless of how it will shake out with the Tax Man.
