Default Someone's False Statement Got Me Fired

My question involves defamation in the state of: florda

I am in the banking industry for more then seven years and never had any problem with any bank , recently the bank I was working for and also in charge of the cash vault fired me saying that My head teller complained to higher up that she saw me putting some change inside my teller drawer in order to balance my drawer, you see we have a electronic journal that captured every thing when you are balancing, so if you do not balance first time and change any figure to balance it will be recorded, so when they told me that I requested to pull my balance sheet and journal to prove that I balanced at the first chance to the penny and also there are eight surveillence camera around us to prove that but no one listen to me, I had history of bad relationship with my head teller and she also have a friend that was unemplyed that she like her to take my position , so with my disbelive the bank went with her plot and fired me and hired her friend, what can I do?

There really isn't anything you can do if they wish to believe her over you. In at-will employment you can be terminated at any time for any reason except a reason prohibited by law (ie age, religion, race) or unless you have a binding employment contract or CBA to the contrary. This was not an illegal termination.

File for unemployment ins. Good luck.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

This is case of discrimination and its been going on for long, the head teller force balanced herself and the management covered that , I do have may occasions and examples of this bank differently treating me because of my national background.

It makes it very hard to answer your question if you want to play the "what about THIS" game.

If you were fired due to your national origin, call the EEOC.

Otherwise, I don't see a problem with the firing.

Don't judge someone when you don't know the whole situation, you are talking from the employer point of view, you don't know how does it feel to be treated unfairly and the aftermath of loosing job, I am terrified and in a shock and my integrity is in question, I want to get back to a normal life and its sooooo hard and I have a bumpy road ahead.

    I didn't judge.

I just said that if you don't give us all the information you shouldn't expect complete answers.

None of the above changes my answers.

Nobody has judged you from what I can read here. I only see that people have tried to give you useful information. You mentioned nothing about your national origin being an issue in the original post, so how was anyone supposed to know anything about that until you brought it up? If that is the reason you were terminated then the EEOC is your best bet, and you should be prepared to provide them evidence of the discrimination. Otherwise, they can terminate you because they want to. If they have indicated to others that you are dishonest then you could potentially sue them for slander, but it's hard unless you can show some damages you've incurred as a result. For example, if you failed to get another job at another bank because your former bank said you were dishonest that would be actionable.

    Good luck.

I appreciate all of you guys opinion and I do apologies if I disrespect any one because that was never my intention, any how I did contact EEOC and also Human Right Commission but any government agency they move very slow and all I tell them what happened to me , its my words between there words, I was also written up at December 2008 for another unfair reason, we as a tellers are obligated to report suspicious customer and I did report one customer for withdrawing large amount of money in a regular basis but he is also very good friends of MY WONDERFUL HEAD TELLER so she was furious about that and called the HR and they decided to wrote me up because I did not took her permission before I reported the customer , although its the federal law that we report suspicious customer and don't need anyone's permission and you will never be penalized if you are wrong and not to mention this bank paid millions of dollars in fine during 911 incidence because one of the terrorist used to do the same thing and nobody reported him and now I know why, he must be friends with some one like MY WONDERFUL HEAD TELLER!
