    Question Meaning of Case Numbers

    In California...
I would like to know if there is anyway to look at the following case numbers and determine from the letters/numbers used what type of case these are about - for example, divorce vs. small claims vs. domestic violence, etc.
The only thing I know for sure is these are not listed as 'criminal' cases.

Any ideas? or do I need to go to the courthouse where the case was filed and pull the paperwork to determine this info?

You'll need to go to the courthouse and see.

Different counties use different numbering systems. In my county, all of the courts use a uniform numbering system so that we can tell what kind of case is what, no matter WHERE the case is file... in the county. Go to the next county over, which is only about a 3 minute drive from my house, and their system is MUCH different. The county after that, yet another system for numbering things...

Looking at them, I could GUESS at some, because they seem to use some "codes." Others look like they may be traffic tickets. Again, this is only my guess because I don't know what county we're talking about and I obviously don't work in that county.

Wouldn't it be nice if these types of things had a uniform system... oh well.
I was planning on going to one of the courthouses soon anyway - guess I will ask to pull my allowed 10 files at a time

No, it wouldn't, because that means that the smaller counties would have to change the way they operate to accommodate LA County. We have as many courthouses in this county, as there are counties in CA.
