My question involves personal property located in the State of: Texas
My girlfriend had a semi-friend that was beat up and threatened by her husband. She brought the gun to my house for temporary safe keeping. This was about a year and a half ago. Since then, the husband was in trouble with the law(assault on officers) and taken to jail. Sporadically for almost a year there was email conversation about getting her to retrieve the gun. Finally we contacted the local police department about the situation and were told by them to give a deadline for picking up the property or it would be disposed of. This was done by email(since she had no or unknown address) with no reply. Six months later at the present, my girlfriend gets threatening emails as well as other drama.
The gun was properly disposed of 30 days after the no reply email. The ex-friend is threatening pursuing this in court.
We have all of the emails and the husbands court dealings just in case.
The question is: When does property become abandoned and will the emails be enough to prove that we tried to get resolution prior to disposal of the property?
Thanks for the help
