Default In Debt and Out of Work
Sorry for just jumping in to this post. I could not figure out how to start a new one. I too am in trouble with debt. I have about $4,500.00 of it between three differant creditors. Within the last two months I have found myself with no job and no income. I am living with my ex-wife. We filed for bankruptcy about 3-4 years ago. My current debt is new (within the last two years). I was able to keep up with my payments but due to medical issues I had to apply for assistance through the State of WA DSHS. This assistance ended in April and since then I have been falling behind. I was denigned my SSDI claim. Before I wasn't able to make my payments for May I called each of the three creditors and explained my situation. About two weeks ago the phone calls started coming. I just put the phone on "Do not disturb." Recently, I got a letter from DFS stating that unless I make a $98.00 payment in June they will be taking legal action. I am not sure what to do?? Any ideas??

Default Re: In Debt and Out of Work
DFS - Department of Family Services? That would be for your child support?

If you are paying child support at the level you were paying while employed, consider petitioning for a reduction based upon your unemployment.

I'm not sure if you're telling us that you had a Chapter 7 bankruptcy three or four years ago, or a Chapter 13 bankrutpcy after which you stopped making payments under your repayment plan. But if your entire debt load is $4,500, I wouldn't suggest bankruptcy - I would suggest making your strongest effort to find a job.
