Defamation of Character

My question involves defamation in the state of:

hi i'm new here. i joined here cause i really need some advice. this girl posted a webblog of me cause i'm made a fake account on myspace to trick her. she made it so i don't hurt the next girl but i never hit her or made any threats to her and she made claims that i would of hurt her and her kid which sickens me. so her and her friends are trying to spread the word. can i get her for character of defamation cause i fear this will damage me and i been laying low for a good bit. i haven't been haraased but the longer the page stays up the worst it could get. and do i need proof on how i found this webblog or can i just say someone told me about it? i just want the page taken down.

if you want the page taken down, contact the webmaster and inform them of the inaccuracies in the posting and your belief they are defamatory. That may be enough.

other than that;

if they are truly defamatory; yes, you can sue but how much you would win is generally quite limited unless you are a famous person and the cost to sue is quite expensive and in this situation, generally not something an attorney would take on contingency.

well the girl is the owner of the page it's a domain site. so should i just email her about her defamatory statements hoping she changes it. yeah i might go bankrupt with lawyer fees anyway.

yeah i know i wish i could but i was advise not to message her cause it will look like im coming after her and her friends are really overprotective.

well i gotta protect my name i didn't hurt her and that is the bottom line. people may turn on me and girls will just see as freddy kruger cause of her false accusations. she posted it on another social network called i****inghateyou.com. she already went to the cops but they can't do nothing cause i really didn't do anything awful. but they have it on record so u see i gotta clear my name somehow i'm shaken about it and worried about being harassed in public.

You can't sue for what you're worried might happen, only quantifiable damages that have already been incurred.

Exactly what damages have you ALREADY incurred? Did you lose your job? Did you get demoted? Lose a promotion? Lose money?

hey man what would you do if a girl turned her back on you for another guy and u found out she thought you weren't a challenge? she turn her back on me so the fake guy was gonna turn his back on her.

nothing has happened yet but i gotta prevent from being damage. the cops have her information on record. yeah i was stupid but i don't deserve for my life to be ruined.
