Default Virtual Crime - Hacking Account Back

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

Well first off, i dont know if this is the right place to be posting this thread, im brand new here. Now i will tell you my story and i hope someone with very very very very good experience can help me.

My friend..jack sold an account for an MMORPG game..called silkroad online...he sold his account for $80.00 ( computer game) and my friend jack gave the buyer all of his information, where he lives and his phone number state and everything becuase when the buyer ( Allan ) sent the money, he sent it through the mail ( postal office ).....now my friend wants to "hack" the account back, but i told him that he shouldnt do that because he might get into trouble with the police, since the guy allan knows where jack lives....Allan said that he will call the cops if my friend hacks the account back, allan lives in California...far far from us....Noe my question is if my friend Jack hacks the account back and Allan calls the cops on him would the police do anything? would my friend jack go to jail or face any charges in court? It says that Silkroad Online accounts are not to be sold....but honestly the company itself is selfish they dont care about us player....soo would my friend get into trouble for Virtual crime?? the website for the online game is: http://www.joymax.com/silkroad/ btw this game is free to play..you dont pay anything to play..but you can buy online things.

thanks soo much for reading.....i hope someone with much experience with law can help me, becuase if the answer is no and my friend gets in trouble then he will hate me and we are friends for very long time. THNX once again!

Based on your post you do seem to understand that what your friend is planning on doing is wrong. My personal advise is that you re-think who deserves your friendship.

in the terms of service of the games usually states that you CANNOT profit from their services or designes within the game. However this would more than likely terminate his account or an ip ban with the server (assuming its an online game). However selling something and stealing it back even if it was stolen from you is still theft. Doubt one case would be brought up but numerous as you stated would probably be more likely prosecuted.

If you commit a crime, the police may investigate and prosecution may result. What more do you need to know?

Like Aaron said, If you commit a crime, you will be investigated and then prosecuted. It is that plain and simple.

Selling the account may or may not have been a crime. But it was against the policy you aggreed with when you started the account originally.

Hacking into the account to regain access could/would be theft if not computer hacking which can result in Federal Prosecution.
