Default Can I Break a Lease Due to 6 Break Ins

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Maryland

I have lived in my apartment for 10 months now, and have been broken into 6 times. I have changed my locks, added new locks, and the break ins continue. I have notified management of every break in, and have called the police for 3 of the break ins. (I didn't call for all 6 because the police laughed at me and told me they couldn't do anything and maybe i should stop wasting their time, gotta love city police) My neighbors have also been broken into recently, as have many other tenets around the property.

Management has done nothing to solve the problem. They said they would put on new locks for me, then after a week i did it myself. There are no locks on the outside door, no camera, no gate to get it, no roaming security. The only security they provide are the locks on the door which can be picked with a credit card.

Would I be able to break my lease early, like today, in order to move to a safe place to live? Also, is the management company legally responsible for any of the stuff i have lost? I informed management and they did nothing, but i'm not sure if i have any legal recourse. I did not inform them in writing, I did it by phone so there is no history of it.

The laughing thing needs an explanation. Nothing's funny about a break-in. The police laugh because they think your mentally ill? Because you're calling them with "somebody moved my cheese"-type accounts of a break-in?

Why are you being targeted? We'll assume you're in a high crime area (not your landlord's fault). Are you going around town bragging about your flat screen TV? Why you?

If you want to insure your belongings against damage or theft, get renter's insurance.
