Lightbulb Applying for a Social Security Number for a Tourist

    Hello everyone,

    So here is the story:
My friend came here about a month ago, he has a tourist visa and is expected to leave the US in about 6 months.
So if we were to go to a local social security office here in the state of Connecticut, or if there isn't one , in the state of New York. We were to ask this question, would he be able to apply?
We would like to ask,"He has a tourist visa, he would like to get a social security number so he can apply for a Driver's license here in Connecticut so he can rent a vehicle so he has means to travel?"

Does anyone know if this is something we can do?If they will accept this?

Thank you for any input that anyone has.

I have another question, if he is the grandson of a person that was born in Baltimore, MD ....but he does not have any comunication with that family, but he does have the name and last name of the grandfather, but grandfather is deseased. will he be able to get some sort of benefits from that ? Like immigration benefits? could he become legal of some sort through family benefits through immigration?

I thought you said he was here legally on a tourist visa and intended on leaving in 6 months. Now you are trying to find a way for him to immigrate here.

Sure sounds like an immigration scam to me.

But no, his grandfathers status does not alter his status.
