I'm in South Carolina, and recently I was pulled over for "going 71 in a 45". I know I was going 60, but my word vs. the officer's word in South Carolina and I'm screwed.
Long story short, I got to looking at the ticket. My middle name is Keith - the officer copied my name over as Kieth. Additionally, he wrote the U of my license plate as something that looks more like a V. He didn't cite which day of the week it was (monday tuesday wednesday...) and there's a section where he was supposed to. He listed the weather as clear when it was decidedly cloudy (rain drops began to collect on my car's windshield as I sat in the car waiting on him.)
He was "nice" and lowered my ticket to 69 out of 45...a 4 point and 180.50 dollar ticket. Additionally, I could not locate the intersection he listed on a map (Highway 123 and Pendelton. Pendleton is nearby. But there is no Pendelton.)
If I wanted to get picky, he indicated that it was "2115 PM". There is no 2115 PM. This is inconsistent as earlier on the ticket he listed the time of my trial as 3:00 PM.
Also, the name of my Trial Officer is "City Court"...I don't know what that means.
Would this give me any kind of case to get the ticket dropped? Additionally who would I contact/how would I go about doing such? I'd really prefer not to go to court - he knew I was a college student and chose a time midafternoon...and the time he chose is in the middle of three different classes I likely won't be able to miss....so I don't want to go to court if I can help it, but I also don't want to get a ticket if I can help it.
As I understand it it'd be kinda bad to try to dismiss the ticket on this charge (because theoretically they could give me 71 instead of 69) and they could say that well he can fix his mistakes, but according to the law, the ticket was issued to the wrong person in a place that doesn't exist at a time that doesn't exist in the wrong type of weather for the county this theoretical location was at the interpreted time. Additionally, the license plate number listed for my car is not my car.
Advice? What should I do? My court date isn't until March 30th...but I don't have the resources to get any kind of court case prepared.
