Default Employer Disclosed Personal Information About an Employee

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: MICHIGAN

Long story short, I got fired from my employement and was arrested for illegal drugs. I had very high contacts with drug sources and was working with DEA (drug enforcement Agency). The night I was suppost to do a drug deal I got a call from the dealer, he said his friends had gone into my old employment to get service. They never asked for me or anything but the OWNER of the store "ran" from the back when she saw black males on the video cameras. She asked them if they knew "FIRST AND LAST NAME SAID", they replied they heard of me but didnt really know me well. She informed them I was arrested at work for selling drugs and that I was fired and the cops have been watching the workplace. The customers then informed the drug dealer I was going through that I might be a rat/informant. So I was at the drug deal, had money, a wire tap and was ready to go and he bailed out and never wants to do business with me again. The owner of the store ruined DEA's investigation and my key to getting out of the charges. She put my family at risk by disclosing my last name and they are furious. Can I sue the owner for disclosing personal information about me. She said why I was fired, when I was fired, my first and last name and that the cops were involved....

Please don't judge me here I just need answers.
    Thanks

It is 100% LEGAL for your employer to say why you were fired, when you were fired, etc. It is NOT illegal for an employer to disclose what you term personal information, with the limited exception of some medical information.

If the information is true, the employer has a good faith and reasonable belief that it is true, or it represents their honest opinion, they may disclose it. NOWHERE in the US does the law prohibit the employer from providing iinformation about your firing.

    Agree with cbg. Betty3
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Your last name is not private information.

Many employers even require employees to display their full names on ID badges, name tags, uniforms and such. It's not illegal to disclose your last name.

If the DEA is concerned about her "ruining their investigation", they'll take care of it. However, she violated no employment laws by giving out the information she did.
