Default Trying to Obtain Loan Without Cosigner Consent
My question involves criminal law for the state of: NJ

I recently received notice from Chase that a loan application which I "co-signed" for was declined. I never co-signed for a loan it was done without my knowledge. I have requested from Chase all related information for this loan request, Chase is sending me a fraud package which I have to complete.

I would like to pursue this also with the law, although the loan was declined my concern is that if it was not, my name would have been forged and without my consent or knowledge I would be responsible for the loan should the "main" not pay off the loan.

Is this something I can pursue with the police department? If so what would the crime be and penalty be?
thanks

You certainly can report this to the police. It could potentially lead to one of a number of charges, or multiple charges, depending upon the full facts - there are various forms of fraud, forgery, identity theft.... It will be for a prosecutor to decide once all the facts are in.
