Moving Out with Parental Consent

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: California and Washington

Hi, I'm 17 years old (18 in January 2010) and I wasn't exactly sure on where to post this but this seem like the most appropriate forum. I'm not looking to be emancipated since my parents still wish to provide for me. What I'm looking at seems more like "private fostering". My parents have approved for me to live with my boyfriend and under the care of their parents in order to attend school (We've known each other for 5-6, maybe 7 years, they know each other). I'm going to start in a program at a community college in Washington called Running Start in order to transfer into the University of Washington. I've heard that 17 year olds are able to move out in order for school. Here's my problem though:

I have to enroll in a high school in Washington in order to enroll into the college program. With my parent's consent of moving in with my boyfriend's parents, can they sign for me if there's paper work?

Since I'm 17, can I simple move up to Washington without dealing with a social worker? What is the process for all of this?

You will have to investigate with the school district where you wish to enroll to see what they require.

It seems as if your parents would have to assign gaurdianship to the other parents you would be living with. Thus giving them legal leverage if needed. So the parents would have the ability to act in abscence of your parents. Since the other parents would technically be your legal gaurdians.

This is not your parents giving up legal rights or parental rights of you. It is just allowing the other parents to make legal decissions that pertain to you.

Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for. Would you happen to know what kind of process we have to go through in order to hand guardianship to the other parents?

There is a form at the court house you will need.

Although you can do it through a Lawyer as well. The choice is yours.

You can obtain the appropriate guardianship papers from the Probate Court in the county in which you will reside. There will be a filing fee - this varies by county, so inquire when the papers are obtained.
