Default Discovered Lien on Mobile Home
Hi,

Here is my situation. I bought a mobile home a few years ago. I never did transfer the title over to my name. I'm now looking to sell the home and found out of the department of housing and manufacturing that I need a release of lien to get the title. I also found out that a collections agency currently has the lien on the home and it's still under the previous owner. They will not disclose on what the amount the previous owner owes and will not release the lien to me. My first question is, do I need a lawyer for this?. Second, is there attorney services that are provided that are affordable through the government instead of finding a lawyer on my own that will charge thousands of dollars to look into this. Please help

Thanks

It depends. If you contact the former owner and he agrees to pay off the lien, you can resolve it that way. If not, depending upon the amount of the lien, you need to consider possible legal remedies.

Certain other nations provide broad publicly subsidized legal services, to help give their citizens access to the courts. The United States offers rather meager publicly subsidized legal services - but you may wish to check with the legal services office in your area to see if you can get help through them.
