My question involves an auto loan or repossession in the State of: Indiana

My car was repossessed in the wee hours of the morning. Of course, I didn't know they were coming, and they aren't required to tell me, of this much I know.

However, after making a call to my lender, who gave me the number of the repo man. That repo company sub-contracted with a 2nd company who contracted with a 3rd and final repo company. When they FINALLY called me back today, they informed me that I could have my belongings back for a fee, and the keys! While they do have a right to the car, can they really charge me for my personal property they stole???

Of course, it was towed over an hour away. This economy has killed me. If I had $65 laying around...I'd be thrilled.

Can they do this?

In most states, they may charge you a "reasonable storage fee" based on the amount of stuff and the length of time they've held it.

"Reasonable" being open to interpretation, obviously.
