Default Contract Signed, End Client Bailed
I am an IT contractor in the UK and has been hard finding work the psat 3.5 months. finally I get something for 6 months however very very poor pay.

Anyway, I had the interview, got the job, signed all documents (contract) as did they.... and was meant to start this week (30th March) then they said next week (6th April).... and now found out that its not going to happen.

They bailed even though they wanted someone so badly, and desperately, went on and on about commitment... but they cannot commit.

I am of course very furious, depressed and have loss of earnings now. The contract was meant to be for a solid 6 months.

Is there anything I can do at all as contracts have been signed for employment....

Can I fine them or something (actually its going through a recruitment agent whom I trust) or tell them to pay up all the income I would have earned, since they went back on their word AFTER signing the contract?

what can be done?

Thanks!

If you were in the U.S., where this board is based, I would advise you to review your contracts but would expect you to find that nothing could be done. The U.K. has different laws from ours, so while you should still review your contracts, you should consult a U.K. lawyer or legal board for additional information.
