Child Support Purpose

my ex paided me child support intill our son turned 18..after 20 years of living in and paying the mortgage on our condo, he wants his half..I am being told that the child support was for the mortgage payment so he had been paying half the mortgage for 18 years?? can child support be consider mortgage payment?? thanks alot in Calif..

Uh ...NO. Child Support is a payment made to you for financial support of your child. That money can go towards roof over head, food, clothing, sports... whatever. There should have been an agreement between the two of you re split of assets is you are divorced and that may have included the house... I don't know. You'd have to check your paperwork. But otherwise, one does not have to do with the other.

Again, it sounds like he's claiming half of his equity in the house, having deferred division of that asset until the kid(s) grew up. Have a laywer review your judgment of divorce and advise you.
