Military Man Who Wants His Baby and His Military Ex
My question involves paternity law for the State of: (Military: both; Alabama: father; Puerto Rico/Alabama: mother)
I have a male soldier who was in a relationship with another soldier while stationed overseas. She had their child while he was deployed and did not place his name on the birth certificate. They ended the relationship before the birth of their child and his return to their duty station in Germany, but he has since requested to be on the birth certificate. The female has stated that there are too many "complications" to placing him on the birth certificate(due to being stationed overseas) but that she would continue to try as long as he "played his part" by providing for her and the child. He has continued to give money to his ex until recently when he told her that the funds were cut off until he was placed on the birth certificate. She now refuses to try stating that if he is not willing to continue helping with paying for the childs care, then he has no right to claim fatherhood. This male soldier would like to demand a DNA test in an effort to gain paternal rights. How does he go about this if the mother is in Germany? My military resources have told me that the military is not able to do paternity orders. The child is now one year old.
