Default Fraud Charges with Section 8 Rental Assistance
I have been on this program for about 4 years and they sent me a letter stating that they had been investigating me and that I owed them over 27,000.00. Well I don't have this. I have not been arrested as of yet or heard anything back from them after meeting with them regarding this. They stated that someone gave them a tip on me and that they did an investigation on me and the only way they would not take this any further is if I paid them in full. Welll I don't have that so what kind of charges can I be facing. I have been arrested before for 2 counts of simple assault but the case was dismissed. I just have not got it expunged off my record as of yet. What should I do or expect in a case like this? Please help ASAP!

You should consult a local criminal defense lawyer.

Did they actually say, "Pay or we will have you prosecuted," or words to that effect?

They said that if I pay then they will not perscute or take it any further but they are going to be going ahead with turning over everything with who ever handles cases like this. But i guess if I pay them, then if they are in the process of presuing this case then they will probably drop everything.
