My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington
hi
I am 17 and in a little over two months i will be turning 18. Two weeks ago i was caught shoplifting. first offense. Yes, verry stupid. It was at JCPennys and I was with my 19-year-old friend. I stole $120 worth and hers was $80 worth. I was told that my court date would come in the mail, but it hasn't yet. My friend has already gotten her attorney because she had to set up her own court date being over 18. Her attorney got her police report and it mentioned that we 'looked suspicious' while looking at jewlrey. Which we didn't we walked in and were pointing and talking normal. It also said that my friend grabbed a scarf but she didn't i did. it also said that she had grabbed a bracelet but she also hadn't i had. The only time we looked suspicious was when we were leaving and i felt sick to my stomach and i stopped and turned around. Then they stopped us when we stepped out the store. They said we know you stole we want our stuff back. and i literally didn't hear them so i asked what? and they said it again, so we handed the stuff over and followed them.
I have no record of any sort. I've never even gotten a ticket for speeding.
What will my charges be? will i go to jail?
and i also would like to know if i would be able to apply for diversion and if i should call about my court date since i have yet to receive it?
thank you
