My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: New York
My job undertook a reduction in workforce where 80% of the office was layed off and they offered her a to stay on, but that the job expectations were going to change and I would be expected to handle administrative tasks in addition to my usual job. I decided to quit. Two months later I needed some money as I couldn't find a job and thought that the above situation would qualify myself for benefits and cited lack of work. I thought the state would call my employer to confirm before paying out benefits. After two payments I received a letter in the mail saying my claim is under investigation, that they spoke to my former employer and they said i quit and they want to know why I cited lack of work. Looking back this was a bad idea. I am now very nervous and dont' want any trouble, as it was never my intention to defraud, I thought the lack of work definition applied to my situation. I simply want to return the money. What should I do?
