Does taking blank clothing, shoes, etc, and putting custom art on them for resale violate copyright or any other laws?
If you own the art or license it for that purpose, you can put it on clothing. If the art is custom made for you, you should have had an agreement that it was a work for hire and the copyright belongs to you.
If you do not have clearly defined legal rights to put the art on clothing, you may well be engaging in copyright infringement and opening yourself to a civil action that could cost you big bucks.
In this case, the art is all original done by myself for the customer and shouldn't violate any copyright, but I wanted to make sure that the use of VANS shoes, and other clothing brands to put my designs on was legal without any sort of contract or permission granted by VANS or any other clothing company.
