Ticketed for Expired Driver License

My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Michigan

I was recently ticketed for driving with an expired license,
which I totally forgot about its renewing date had passed for about 10 months. I was told that it is a dismeanor to drive with an expired license and the judge can send me to jail for 90 days because of that. Although it is not likely that the jail time will be sentenced, it will leave me a dismeanor charge on my record if I admit gailty. So, my question is how likely I can avoid the dismeanor record? Do I generally need a lawer in this case?

Here is what you do.

Before court, go and get your new license.

Apologize to the very nice judge person and say, "I was an idiot. I have reinstated my license and will never let this happen again. I have even put my expiration date in my outlook calendar so that this will not happen twice."

The judge will say you are very naughty... and you may get a fine to go along with your traffic ticket.
