Default Paternity Summons Process
What are the next steps in Service of Summons after the Sheriff fails to do it? Can you really hide from being served? State, IL

Generally speaking, you can petition the court to permit "substituted service". If the court agrees, the court will order publication, posting, and/or service on the person's last known address, in a combination the court deems sufficient to give the person notice of the pending paternity lawsuit.

Thanks. We are going to try mailing if nothing is done by sheriff. I think 3 weeks is long enough to get it there. I would hope it doesn't have to go that far. Delays will only hurt himself. I'm not stopping till I get what my son deserves. You know, I would just be tickled if he bought a pack diapers.
