My question involves a condominium located in the State of: CA
I can only give the highlights of my case because a full explanation is too lengthly. My tenant (and daughter) moved in Jan this year. Two weeks later I received a complaint from the downstairs owner about her burning a whole in his umbrella and making noise in the middle of the night. He is an ex cop, ex president, and has complained about every tenant I've had. We have a history. I accepted responsibility and did not hear anything until receiving a letter to appear before the board because of neighbors "living in fear".
I went alone and it was awful. They were raising their voices at me and demanding that I evict her because "late hours make her a drug addict and dealer" "her friends look like addicts" "someone shady was following the downstairs neighbor" for starters. My downstairs neighbor gave a very dramatic performance as usual. Of course anyone should be upset if this were true. My concern is that she has had legal trouble in the past and because it is public knowledge the board knows this. I feel that this has predudiced any defense she has and nothing she can do will ever be right. In fact they told me to do her a favor and kick her out to get help. They demanded my answer right then, but I stood my ground and said one week. They have threatened fines and worse. I only have the initial complaints from Jan in writing. What would be some advice for my next steps?
