Opinions differ. Surely the millions incarcerated would say it is a punishment.

You are incarcerated after a conviction OR if the judge decides that you will have a problem showing up for court.

Also when an arrest due to missing a court appearance for ONE simple traffic ticket interferes with getting employment I was assured I had- then it is more than simply an unpleasantry, plus gave me an arrest record when I never had one before

Let's be honest with ourselves here.

Whose fault is that? Yours.

You decided that court was something you could decide not to attend. The judge decided to make you understand how to prioritize your time.

He/She has that authority.

You didn't get arrested a traffic ticket. You got arrested for ignoring court.

I am not a criminal simply due to one traffic ticket & resent having been treated as though I committed some horrific crime.

Make sure you make the judge aware of how little you value the judge's opinion of his/her time.

If I am not mistaken, it is against EEOC guidelines to ask if you have ever been "arrested" on an employment application! Convictions, yes.

Background checks are another matter.

The job I was assured I had, is now waiting for the record of the arrest. It is a job I have worked previously twice (seasonal work), & was commended for that work. Now all of a sudden, I have to show why I was arrested.It seems wrong that a simple misdemeanor traffic ticket could cause so many problems.I have talked to many who live in this area, & it seems the city court is infamous for doing this sort of thing- one more reason to move!

Excuse me but do you know WHY I missed court? You do not. I had a family emergency, yet the judge did not see it as such. The tragedy that happened was SO much, that I forgot, yes FORGOT about court.

It was NOT that I did not deem it as unimportant, or trivial. I have never been in trouble in my life, nor would I have missed court had the family emergency not taken place. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with disrespect of the judge or court.

However now, I have a great disrespect of the whole court system in the city I live in & how it is run. Favoritism is shown to those with money & with the "right name". It is not merely my opinion, but has been proven time and time again. So before you go accusing someone of not valuing the judge's time- maybe you should know that is not always the case. Emergencies do happen, that can supercede one's time and mind.
