Red Light Camera

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I recently had a friend's wedding in California and rented a car. I received a ticket taken by a camera stating that I went through a red light at the intersection of SB Fairfax and Fountain. The picture states that i have a late time of 2/10 of a second but nowhere on the ticket is there a picture proving that the light is red. THE TICKET IS FOR $435!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple of questions:
1) How do I go about fighting the ticket, being that I can't exactly fly out to LA to go to court?

2) What happens if I simply ignore the ticket? Is the worst that can happen that my license gets suspended in the state of California?

3) Do points and negative insurance effects carry over from CA to NY?

I would have expected them to include basic instructions on how to defend against the ticket, along with the ticket. You can do a trial by declaration; but you need a defense. What defenses do you think you have?

Points from a California ticket shouldn't affect you as a New York driver. A driver's license suspenion from California, however, would be a different matter - that can carry over.

Isnt there some info on this site about first making sure the ticket is "real"

some are from police and some are from the camera vendor? (i think)

Is the court's address on the ticket? Does it say "Do not contact the court"? Do a search for 'snitch ticket' on the internet and you'll find some examples. Let us know what you find out. I have a feeling that may be what you're dealing with.
