    Default Can An Online Forum Post Your Personal and IP Information from Registration

    Recently I got into a dispute with some other members of an online gaming community. It got to the point that they posted mine, and two other members of my teams IP's so users from their forums could "DoS" us. (I have screenshots of those quotes and copied text files)

    After reading that, i did a WHOIS on www.networksolutions.com and got all his personal info because he registered the website (fp4ever.org), and then I posted his first, last, and state of residence on their forums telling him I knew exactly who he was and he better call his dogs off.

    Now one of his team members is saying I broke the law by posting that info (First, Last, & State) on their website. And because of that, he is pursuing legal actions against me. What I wonder is if there is even a case? I found that information on a Public website where anyone who knew how to use the tools could get that same info. Is posting only a name and residence illegal? I didn't post ANY kind of contact information. Everything I posted can be found on multiple sites just by reading his profile.

    The second issue the man has with me is because I use the alias "weedman" and because of it, and his anger, now his family members (who are coincendently lawyers and goverment employees) are now looking into my activites and seeking legal actions.... here's what he posted:

    =================
    Refering to Weedman nickname..it implies your possible personal activities and I know some people in my family have an interest in you and such activities...a nickname and alias...lol...no its more then that bro..it is ur personal Identification online...like when the cops bring down a molester online with his online Identification.."Alias"..ect...I have several members in my family who work for law enforcement and other affiliates therof. I have broken no laws although both sides have been tettering the fine line of lawbreaking. Yes u may inquire personal info..but u certianly have no right to post it publicly without permission. You might be better on PCS then myself..and you might be able to copy and paste ..internet Law...all of which I and the members of my family know and have know for a while. You think your firewall will tell anything if ur hit...lmao firewalls have hits every second...BTW firewalls are like cardboard to the right people..It seems to me you have a knack for bringing a bad rep and apparently u have some enemies..If your PC gets trashed..not my problem. Like I said before....My IP will not be on the list of the attackers...You will not see any FP members Ip from an attack on ur pc..If it happens and when it happens...it will be your problem..something I am sure your mouth created. I will Say 1 more time..THERE ARE LAW OFFICIALS AND AFFILIATES THEROF WITHIN MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY WHOM HAVE BECOME CURIOUS OF UR PERSONAL HABITS DUE TO THE WAY U CARRY URSELF. I TOLD YOU TO GO FORFIET>>YOU THINK UR SPECIAL SO I AM TREATING YOU SPECIAL >>YOU HAVE MY FULL ATTENTION UNTIL I AM SATISFIED. I TOLD U HOW IT COULD ALL BE AVOIDED>>ADMIT UR FORFIET TO THE PROPER PEOPLE> I WROTE THIS LARGE SO YOU CAN READ IT CLEARLY. IF YOU GIVE ME UR PHONE NUMBER I WILL GLADLY CALL YOU AND GO STEP BY STEP WITH YOU ON HOW TO NOT GET YOURSELF INTO SOMETHING YOUR MOUTH CAN'T WIGGLE YOU OUT OF.
    =================================

    So thats what he says. I use over 15 different aliases online because I all over the internet... It's my job.

    I have saved conversations, saved forum posts, and saved IM conversations where we are brutally harrassed because of a video game. I have saved shots of them posting our IP for their friends to DoS and their friends acknowledging they had our IP's.

    I just want to know if there could be any legal trouble or is this all just BS? Sorry for so much, just wanted to make sure I didnt leave anything out.

    Thanks!!

    Default Posting a Name and State

    If it were illegal to post somebody's full name and state of residence, every service which makes available website registration information would be in a lot of trouble. Besides, its his forum - if he doesn't like what is posted there, he can delete it. It sounds like a lot of bluster and hot air to me.
