    Default Teenage Marriage and Emancipation

My question involves marriage law for the State of: Texas

I'm 15 (soon to be 16) and pregnant. The father is 18. We want to get married and take care of the child ourselves. But my family doesn't want us to be together and threatens to file statutory rape on him. Is there any way we could get married without parental consent? And how would we go about that? Would I need to acquire emancipation?if so how?

You will need parental consent to marry.

Emancipation while pregnant is almost impossible.

    You don't.

Would I need to acquire emancipation? When you got pregnant, yoru chance of being emancipated went out the window. You now have a better chance of being hit by lightning and winning the lottery on the same day than you do of being emancipated.

    if so how? See above.

There is not a court in the US that will emancipate a pregnant teenager against her parents' wishes so that she can live with/marry her boyfriend. Bottom line, you're staying exactly where you are until your 18th birthday. And depending on exactly when your birthday and that of your boyfriend are, he could be looking at jail time.

There are states that do let you use "pregnancy" as a way to get married without parental consent. A state like Georgia but unfortunately texas is not one of them. And another thing is, you would have to reside in that state, because if not they would know you crossed state lines to get married, and being underage that is illegal. I feel where you're coming from though, i was pregnant at a young age too, and everything. The only difference is my parents did understand my situation, they didn't approve of me being pregnant young don't get me wrong, but they were up for me getting married, so they signed. But don't be sad sweety, everything will work out for you, it may not happen when you want it to happen. But it will. And just in the knick of time too, don't worry.

This loophole was closed by the Georgia Legislature in 2005.

It is not illegal to try.

However, you won't be allowed to get married.

Georgia closed that loophole in 2006, and most other states have followed suit.

    You are correct.

The legislation was proposed in 2005 but ratified in 2006.

    Mea culpa.
