    Default Interesting Link

    My "friend" found this.

This is quite intriguing! Who ever knew Christianity shared such close parallels with Ancient Egyptian Mythology? The similarities are astonishing! But are these comparisons factual or just somebody trying to discredit Christianity?

As factual as comparisons of differing mythologies can be.

Did you even read the link? I've never done much research into Egyptian mythology. Do the comparisons regarding Horus accurately describe his life in accordance with Ancient Egyptian text? Do you know?

Where the hell is Mikey? He would know the answer! He lived through that time!

Yes, I read it, and yes, the descriptions are accurate. My son is a practicing Kemeticist, and Horus is his Patron.

If you look, you'll find parallels in ALL of the world religions mythos. Much of the christian mythos surrounding the birth and resurrection of Christ is lifted wholesale from the cult of Mithras, who stole it from the story of my ancestors' god, Baldur.

I'm a practicing Christian who used to work alongside a practicing Hindu, and we found a number of close similarities in our faiths.

Everybody knows about the parallels between Christianity and Hinduism.

And did you know the teaching of Christ are similar to those of the Buddha who lived 500 years earlier? Did you, cbg? I doubt it. But you may surprise me. Until yesterday I would have wagered everything I own on the notion you lacked a sense of humor.

Now I need to PM this link to gigirle. She loves things that appear to contradict Christianity. Shes a blonde so I highly doubt she'll ever find this on her own. I'll naturally have to provide very specific step-by-step instruction on how to get access it.

I know quite a lot of things that would surprise you. Including about Buddhism. I have a friend who is a Buddhist, too.

The way it was explained to me (and the way I explain it to my children) is that God talks to each of us in a way that we, as flawed and imperfect beings, can understand his teachings.

There is right and wrong, good and bad, pious and ludicrous in all religions. That is what happens when imperfect beings try to communicate with and understand the workings of a perfect God.

Especially when that God only talks to you to set you on the right path every couple of millennium or so.

For me, Christianity resonates with my personality and world view and allows me a relationship with God that makes me a better person. My neighbor may get the same benefit from Hindu or Jewish or Druid beliefs.

The only aspect of religion I have never understood is intolerance between them... especially different "flavors" within the same subset.

That is a discussion for another day....
