Default Aggravated Assault Regulations in Pennsylvania
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Pennsylvania

I've been dealing with an Agg. Assault charge for about a year and 3 months now. I was arrested and spent then entire weekend in the county jail, which was the worst weekend of my life. I'm in college and was defending myself from someone else, and should have never been in this situation in the first place. My first question is how long can this continue to go on without having a trial yet. I know the 6th amendment states that I'm entitled to a quick and speedy trial, but does this apply to a case that has been continued, even if it was my public defender who asked for the continuance?
My Second question is regarding the police report. When I was shown a copy of the "victims" statement I was appalled at what he had "told the cops". I put that in quotes because at our preliminary hearing, the man's story was completely different than what the original police statement says. I assume this is because he was completely wasted when this all happened, and doesn't actually know what happened. Can a victim's story be different in court than it was on the police report without it mattering?
I'm in need of information soon...I am set to graduate and need to start getting my resume out, and this whole situation isn't helping one bit. Please, let me know anything that can help!

You cannot sue for a speedy trial when YOUR attorney asked for the continuance.

What about the whole difference in stories from the police report to the preliminary hearing. Shouldn't that show pretty easily that he doesn't really know what actually happened?
