Unathorized Use of Credit Card, Am I Liable
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon
In 2006-2007 I was down in Louisiana helping out for hurricane katrina. Sometime while i was down there, a former roommate went into my room and took a Target credit card. He charged about $600. I never gave him permission to use the card at all. Am I liable for his charges? He admits to it and the card said "check ID" in the signature box. I dont understand how I am liable if it was stolen and used without my permission or knowledge.

I always heard it was up to a 50$ liability. How do you read this??

The terms of your CC agreement may help explain.

Of course, Target will want to see a copy of the police report where you had the person arrested for using your card.
If you are not willing to have the person charged, you are on the hook for the charges.

Re: Unathorized Use of Credit Card, Am I Liable
I work for a disaster relief company so i am hardly ever home. Thats one of the reasons it did not come to my attention for so long. I confronted him about it and he came clean about it and said he would pay it. About a month later I was back on the job he called said he paid it. But the credit company still calls. is it to late to file a police report? i think he used it the first part of 2007
