Default Credit Card Debt
I received a letter today informing me that this company had purchased my account from an old creditor. They are going to try to make me pay $6866.37. My question is this: the debt is from 14 years ago. It does not show on my credit report. I have been told by several people that after 7 years, a debt is wiped out. I was in federal prison for 12 years, right after the debt was incurred. Can they force me to pay or is it true that after 7 years the debt is wiped out? What can I do to deal with this? I cannot pay. I work two days a week and am in college full-time.
Thank you
Teddy Solano

Default Statute of Limitations
You may wish to contact them in writing and assert the Statute of Limitations as a defense to the debt.

You may wish to look at the sample letter in this thread about the statute of limitations, as well as this article on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
