Old Bad Check Charges
My question involves criminal law for the state of: NC
Back when I was 20, I opened my first checking account and overdrafted it. I paid it all back to the bank and I thought I was done with the matter. I thought the bank covered the charges and the total was less than $100.
That was back in 2000.
Recently, I applied for a new job (I was self-employed till now) and I was refused the position after the criminal background check came back "flagged". Apparently, I have 4 bad checks from that same account that I was never official charged with and are outstanding and I never even knew about them until now, almost 9 years later.
My questions are:
What can I do to get rid of these charges? Can I plead to something lower? Can I contact the companies directly and try to settle and have the charges dropped? Are there any other options?
My basic goal is to be able to pass a background check and get a job.
I appreciate any feedback.
