Unauthorized Inquiries

From my understanding any unauthorized inquiry that does not fall into a permissable purpose category is subject to a $1000 violation.

Can someone give me specifics on how I can get this money?

You're talking about the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act? If you want damages under that act and the defendant won't voluntarily pay you (which would be typical), you file a lawsuit.

Are you sure it was a *hard* inquiry, and not just a *soft* inquiry?
There's a big difference.. It's hard to believe, that with fines like that, companies would do an unauthorized hard inquiry.
