Default No Contact Order Against Grandparent

My question involves grandparents rights in the State of: Michigan

My husband and I are in the process of getting a divorce and I have recently become concerned about his parents. I understand they are upset with me for divorcing their son, but I know they have made accusations against me of violence against my children (which my husband submitted to his attorney as documentation for his custody request to the judge).

I was willing to look past it, but now my husband is having his parents babysit the children more regularly, so there will be more contact. I am concerned that the grandparents will attempt to put me in a bad light to my children because they're upset with me.

Can I file for no contact against the grandparents? How well can it be enforced? Is there anything I can do?

Default Re: No Contact Order Against Grandparent

A court isn't likely to grant such an order against a grandparent who already has a relationship with the child. If you've got some proof that the grandparents have put the child at risk for physical abuse or neglect, then take that to the court and ask for an order. Other than that, they (or anyone else) can be granted access to the child when the child is under dad's care. The court isn't going to be concerned about words that might or might not be spoken to the child in the future.
