My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Oregon
So, my girlfriend and I split a few months back. We were both on the lease, and still are. She moved out, and I've been paying all the rent and bills for the past four months. It's steep for just one person, and has been a bit of a hardship.
Next month will be the last month of the year lease, after that I can go month-to-month per a conversation with my landlord.
When we moved in we split the security deposit and last-month's rent.
Question is, should I give her back her 1/2 of the sec. deposit and last-month's rent? Financially it would be nice if I could keep it all. I could see giving her back the security, but not the last month's rent to account for my $$$ troubles.
She moved in with some mutual friends and has been paying dirt cheap rent for the past 4 months.
We are on good terms, and I wouldn't want $$ to ruin that, but at the same time, I really can use every extra dollar.
She offered to break the lease with me, but I decided to stay.
I guess normally you hate your ex and could care less. This situation requires more tact!
