Given Wrong Date on Wildlife Ticket

I was catching native lizards, which requires a special liceance. I have had this liceance for the past 3 years. At the beggining of every year the Louisiana Wildlife Agency sends me paperwork to get a liceance renewal. I haven't gotten my paperwork for this year yet. This maybe in some way related to the hurricanes, but anyway I desided to go out and catch a few lizards anyway (since I had never seen a wildlife agent the 3 years prior to this i figured I would be fine). Well of course a wildlife agent stops me and writes me a ticket. He looked for what seemed like FOREVER for a paper that stated the court dates for my parish on it. When he finally gave up he just wrote a date a month from today and said that might be the right date but for me to call the court house in a few weeks and find out for sure. Does he have to give me the correct date right there or can he just give me any date and tell me to call and find out the correct date? Any help would be appreciated.

If the court has to correct the date, they would normally send you a courtesy notice with the corrected date. If you call, you can ensure that you won't accidentally miss a court date and end up with a default or bench warrant.
