Terminating Child Support in Michigan

My question involves child support in the State of: Michigan

My boyfriend is paying CS on 2 childen ages 8 and 17 until they graduate from high school or turn 19 1/2. The older child has had 2 kids in the last 2 years, has dropped out of high school, and has moved out of her mother's house. With no job, it is obvious that she is receiving public assistance for herself and 2 children.

Can my boyfriend file to end child support payments for her now since her mother is not providing support for her? If she is not attending school, must he continue to pay until she is 19 1/2?

Your BF should file for a modification of the CS order. Where is the daughter living now?
Your BF should get a consult with a local attorney before he files for the modification.

chances are the CS will not be stopped although it may stop going to mom. I would think the state will take it to offset the fact daughter is on TANF. It is still your responsibility to support your daughter until she is of age or emancipated.
