What Are The Best Questions To Ask When Hiring A Lawyer?

I need a lawyer!

I've never hired a lawyer before (never had to before now) and I'm really at a loss for words. I want to ask intelligent questions so that he/she knows I'm serious about being well-defended and informed.

I know I should ask if he or she has had experience with my type of offense (misdemeanor theft)...other than that I'm stuck.

ANY helpful info would be appreciated.
