Parents and Child all NJ Residents:
In 1995, my boyfriend and I were expecting a child and had plans to be married shortly after the birth. He was born and we signed the birth certificate as Mother and Father, both knowing the possibility of another man being the biological father. We married and remained together for 6 years. During a majority of that time, we went through serious difficulties with our decision to move forward, without knowing truth. We finally separated and divorced. A few months later, we had a DNA test performed. The result was that he was not the father. Over the following 4-6 months, his reliability dwindled down. He more and more often was cancelling his planned time with my son resulting in terrible disappointment for him as a 6 year old boy. So, eventually the contact was completely severed. I persued no legal action and no child support. Now, my son is 13 years old and I believe it is time to explain the entire situation to him. As far as he believes, his father has left and he hasn't spoken to him in 7 years. How do I go about filing for full custody and removing my ex-husband from the birth records?
Thanks
