First off any information or insight is greatly appreciated.
The situation: My girlfriend received a ticket in 2004. She was drving someone elses vehicle and was pulled over for not having her child in his child seat. (he had an a toileting accident in it). She was also charged with driving with a suspended license for failure to appear and failure to pay from a previous ticket. She was under the impression she had resolved this issue as this issue was in 2004 with a disposition date in May 2004. Last year in early 2005 she purchased a new car, got insurance and plates for it. The Motor Vehicles Division and insurance company had no issues with it. Now when she went to renew her plates in 2006, this information popped up and she couldn't renew her registration.
She is a single mother with 2 children and any large fine will impose a financial hardship on her. She needs to get this resolved so she can drive to work and make money. She has a court day tomorrow.
What options does she have?
Should she ask the court for financial leniency?
Since she was unaware of any problems and got her plates and insurance well after the fact does she have grounds for dismissal?
Thanks in adavance for any responses!
